Turkey's broad unemployment rate was 28.3 percent in February, according to the Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey Research Center (DİSK-AR).
The number of unemployed people was over 10 million according to the broad definition of unemployment, shows DİSK-AR data.
The official unemployment rate announced yesterday (April 12) by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) was 13.4 percent.
The agency announced the "labor underutilization rate," which corresponds to the DİSK-AR's broad unemployment rate, as 28.3 percent as well.
After receiving criticism over the accuracy of its figures, the TurkStat started announcing the labor underutilization rate as of March.
Some highlights of the DİSK-AR report:
• Seasonally adjusted narrow unemployment rate increased by 0.8 points in a year and 0.7 points in a month.
• Seasonally adjusted broad unemployment rate increased by 7.5 points in a year and decreased by 1.2 points in a month.
• The number of unemployed people according to the broad definition was 10.02 million in February, 10.51 million in January and 7.07 million in February 2020. (SO/VK)
