A child worker has lost his life after being hit by a bullet while collecting hazelnuts in the Black Sea province of Samsun.
Doğan Yılmaz (15) was working with his family in Hazelnut fields in the Akçagün neighborhood in Terme district.
He was hit by a bullet fired from an unknown location and lost his life on the way to the hospital, the Anadolu Agency (AA) reported.
The gendarmerie is working to find from where the shot was fired.
According to a report by the Umut Foundation, 2,211 people were killed and 3,736 people were injured by firearms in 3,623 "armed incidents" in Turkey in the last year.
According to the Health and Safety Labor Watch (İSİG), seven out of 164 workers who were killed during work in July were children.
Minister of Family, Labor and Social Services Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk had said on June 12 World Day Against Child Labor that the rate of child workers in Turkey decreased to 4.4 percent in 2019 from 10.3 percent in 1999. (AÖ/VK)
