The International Workers' Day, officially May 1 Labor and Solidarity Day in Turkey, was celebrated in various parts of the country with demonstrators abiding by social distancing rules and wearing masks due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In larger cities, celebrations took place yesterday (April 30) because of a three-day curfew.

In the western İzmir province, people performed "halay", a folk dance, with wooden sticks to maintain social distance. Halay is normally performed with people holding hands of one another. Politicians and union representatives also attended the event.

The Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB) celebrated the May day in several cities. "Against all kinds of discrimination, sexism and othering, we will establish a new social order in which equal citizenship, peace is adopted in the homeland, the region and the world," it said in a written statement.
