Out of 100 thousand employees in public business enterprises, 89.7 percent are men and 10.3 percent are women as of the end of 2018, according to a report by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance.
As part of the "rationalization of labor", personnel policy of the public enterprises aims to reduce idle workforce, improve personnel profile through employing qualified staff and make enterprises more competitive, the report stated.
Number of employees has decreased by a half since 2000
As a result of the personnel policy, the number of employees in the enterprises in the portfolio of the ministry dropped from 207 thousand in 2000 to 103,836 in 2016. It further decreased to 101,306 in 2017 and 100,657 in 2018.
While 46,794 of the employees were public servants and contracted staff, 53,863 were workers.
Barring temporary workers, the number of employees was 94,657 as of the end of 2018.
39 percent have been working for over 20 years
According to the report, 24.9 percent of the employees have been working for 25 years or more, 20.8 percent have been working for 5 to 10 years, 16.2 percent have been working for 0 to 5 years and 14.4 percent have been working for 20 to 25 years, 12.7 percent have been working for 12.7 years, and 11.1 percent have been working for 10 to 15 years.
The percentage of employees who have at least a 20-year term of office is 39.3 percent. More than half of the employees have at least a 15-year term of office.
One-fourth of employees are over 50 years old
35.6 percent of the employees are in the 40-50 age group, 26.5 percent are in the 30-40 age group, 21.7 percent are in the 50-60 age group, 11.6 percent are in the 20-30 age group, 4.4 percent are 60 years old or older, 0.1 percent are 20 years old or younger.
35 percent have a BA or a higher degree
As for the educational background, 31.7 percent of the employees have a BA degree, 3.9 percent have a master's degree and 0.1 have a doctorate. The percentage of the personnel who have at least a BA degree is 35.7 percent.
24.6 percent of the employees have a vocational high school degree, 17.1 percent have an associate's degree, 11.8 percent graduated from an elementary school, and 10.7 percent have a high school degree. 0.1 percent are literate but do not have an educational degree.
90 percent don't speak any foreign language
The percentage of the personnel who speak a foreign language was 5.3 and who speak at least two languages was 4.2.
2.3 percent of the personnel are disabled, 0.8 percent are former convicts, 0.7 percent are relatives of "martyrs" and "veterans", 0.7 percent are those who grew up in an orphanage. (TP/VK)
