The Occupational Health and Safety (İSİG) Assembly has released the occupational homicide report for September.
Accordingly, at least 145 workers were killed in occupational homicides in September. Number of the killed workers in the first nine months of the year reached 1320.
Here are figures from the report:
- 122 of 145 workers were paid laborers (workers and civil servants) and 23 of them were self-employed (farmers and artisans).
- 11 of the killed workers were female and 134 were male.
- Six child workers were killed, with four of them being 14 years old or younger.
- Nine immigrant/refugee workers were killed. Four of them were from Afghanistan, two were from Uzbekistan, one was from Azerbaijan, one was from Russia and one was from Ukraine. In the first nine months of the year, 91 immigrant/ refugee workers were killed.
- The most number of killings occurred in the sectors of agriculture, municipality/general work, trading/office, transportation, metal, ship/shipyard, food, energy, mining and accomodation/entertainment.
- Most common causes for killings are traffic/shuttle accident, falling from a height, crushing, heart attack, electric shock, suicide and violence.
- 42 of the killed workers were 51 years old or older.
- Occupational homicides occurred in 48 cities in September. The cities where most cases happened were İstanbul (17), İzmir (8), Bursa (7), Muğla (7).
