The Şenyaşar family met with Deputy Minister of Justice Ramazan Can today.
The family, demanding justice for years now, had lost three of their family members in an armed attack on their workplace that continued further in the hospital after a quarrel during the visit by the Justice and Development Party (AKP) MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız and his bodyguards to their workplace during the election campaign in June 2018.
Emine and Ferid Şenyaşar, the mother and son, who lost the father and two other sons in the attacks have been keeping a "Justice Watch" in front of the Urfa Courthouse that they started on March 9, 2021. They carried their watch over to Ankara on July 18, after Ferid Şenyaşar was elected an MP of the Green and Left Party (YSP) in the May 14 elections.
Mezopotamya Agency (MA) reported that the Şenyaşar family was able to meet the deputy minister after waiting for a long time in front of the Ministry of Justice requesting to meet with Minister Yılmaz Tunç.
They were invited into the Ministry in order to meet Deputy Minister Ramazan Can after hours of waiting.
The meeting with the deputy minister will be a closed-door meeting.
What happened?
On June 14, 2018, the security guards and relatives of former AKP member of parliament İbrahim Halil Yıldız attacked the Şenyaşar family while visiting their workplaces during an election campaign in Suruç, Urfa.
Celal, Adil, Mehmet, Fadıl, and Ferit Şenyaşar, who were injured in their shop, were taken to Suruç State Hospital. At the hospital, the father Hacı Esvet Şenyaşar, who came to inquire about his sons' condition, along with his injured sons Adil and Celal, were also attacked by the Yıldız family and their relatives.
During the hospital attack, Adil and Celal, as well as their father Esvet Şenyaşar, were killed. Fadıl, Ferit, and Mehmet Şenyaşar were severely injured.
In the incident, the brother of the AKP member of parliament, Mehmet Şah Yıldız, also lost his life.
It was revealed that during the attack, the then-Minister of Food, Agriculture, and Livestock Ahmet Eşref Fakıbaba, the Governor of Urfa, the District Governor of Suruç, and the police chief were present in the hospital garden.
Furthermore, it came to light that the hospital's security camera recordings were seized.
Two separate cases were opened for the massacre, one regarding the initial attack and the other concerning the "hospital." Subsequently, these cases were merged.
In the trial, Fadıl Şenyaşar was sentenced to 37 years and 9 months in prison, while Enver Yıldız, the brother of the AKP member, received an 18-year sentence.
