A prisoner who was arrested for a criminal offense died in what was the second suspicious death in the Aydın Type-E Closed Prison this year.
Informing the family of Fırat Çağlayan, 28, yesterday (August 25), the prison administration claimed that he hung himself with shoelaces in the toilet of his ward.
His body was taken to the Adnan Menderes University Practice and Research Hospital in Aydın for autopsy. After the autopsy, the body will be buried at the Ovaeymir Cemetery in Aydın city center.
The Aydın Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into the suspicious death.
Previously, Yılmaz Ekinci, 28, was claimed to have killed himself in the prison in January. A prisoner who did not want to be named told the Mezopotamya Agency (MA) last month that it was "impossible" for him to hang himself in the cell he was kept in.
"In the observation room, they take even your shoes, let alone find something to hang himself. My opinion is that his neck was broken and then they made it look like suicide," he said. (AS/VK)
