The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has released a written statement to mark the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, commemorating Jews, Roman people, people with disabilities who were systematically killed by the Nazi regime.
"During World War II, Turkey welcomed many Jews fleeing the Nazi atrocities," said the ministry. "A considerable number of Jews were saved from being sent to concentration camps thanks to the determination of the Turkish Government and the remarkable efforts of Turkish diplomats.
"Turkey maintains its uncompromising stance against Antisemitism, xenophobia, racism, anti-Islam and all forms of intolerance, and contributes to international cooperation in the fight against hate-based speech and crimes." (EMK/VK)
