The police raided dozens of homes this morning (November 20) in the Küçükarmutlu neighborhood in İstanbul's Sarıyer district.
The home of lawyer Aytaç Ünsal, who carried out a death fast demanding a fair trial for more than 200 days before accepting treatment in early September, was among them.
Numerous police officers reportedly entered the home, where there were only Ünsal and his companion.
The police broke the door without any warning, he told Mesopotamia Agency (MA).
"Even before I realized what was happening, long-barreled guns were pointed at me and they asked me to put my hands up. I said, 'What are you doing? I am ill and under treatment, you can't enter my home like this.' The police chief responded, 'We know you are ill. Please wear your mask. Then I requested [to see] their search warrant. They showed the search warrant," he said.
"After a cursory search, they scattered the home and left," said Aytaç.
There were a cemevi, an Alevi place of worship, and a home for the elderly among the 30 places the police searched for "suspects," according to the MA report. Five people were detained in the cemevi.
After the raids, the People's Law Bureau (HHB) released a statement on Twitter, saying that "The judicial reform of the fascism is more of a state terror."
