The Governorship of Hakkari has declared five areas in Turkey's southeastern province of Hakkari as "special security zones". These areas are Hakkari Center, Çukurca, Şemdinli, Yüksekova and Derecik. The entry of the people to these zones without permission has also been banned.
The decision of the Governorship has been shared with the public on its official website. According to the statement of the Governorship, the decision in question has been taken based on the Article 32/A of the Law on Military Forbidden Areas and Security Zones.
The five areas in question will be "special security zones"as of today (August 30) till September 13 at 11.59 p.m. "Our citizens have been forbidden to enter these zones without permission", the Governorship has indicated.
About HakkariThere are 4 towns, 122 villages and 368 hamlets in Hakkari Merkez (Center), Yüksekova, Şemdinli and Çukurca. Population of city center is 239, 455 and of rural area is 97,126, amounting to 336,581. 87.6% of the city is mountainous, 10.3% is plateau, 21.% is lowland.
