The Petroleum Pipeline Company (BOTAŞ) has hiked natural gas prices, effective today (April 1), in what was the second major hike since the start of the year.
Prices have increased 35 percent for households, 44.3 percent for businesses and 50 percent for electricity generation facilities.
In its statement about the hikes, the company said "high energy prices in the world have not been reflected to our consumers at the same rate."
"Despite the increasing costs, our state has provided 76 percent support to our customers," the company said, apparently in reference to the government's assistance program for low-income households.
Households in Turkey use the cheapest natural gas in Europe, it asserted. (AEK/VK)
