Sefa Önal, who has written the scenarios of important movies of Yeşilçam such as "Vesikalı Yarim" (My Prostitute Darling), "Ağaçlar Ayakta Ölür" (Trees Die Standing), "Ah Güzel İstanbul" (Oh, Lovely İstanbul), "Ah Müjgan Ah", "Dila Hanım" (Lady Dila), and "Tatar Ramazan" lost his life.
Önal, who had set the Guinness World Record with 385 of his scenarios shot in movies, was 92 years old.
The Occupational Union of Scenario and Dialogue Writers (SENARİSTBİR) announced the passing away of the scenarist in a social media post in which they described him as a doyen of cinema in Turkey.
Born in İstanbul on December 17, 1930, Önal was a scenarist, a director, and an author. He started writing short stories in 1945.
First a scenarist, he also started directing films in 1973 and was the director of nearly 40 films.
Önal has received many awards in important film festivals of the country such as the Golden Boll and the Golden Orange. (AÖ/PE)
