Özgür Özel, the group deputy chairperson of the Republican People's Party (CHP) addressed the reporters in the parliament, after registering as MP in the new legislative period, announced that the party will elect new group deputy chairpersons, and determine and announce a new road map.
"Nobody should believe that we will continue doing politics as if nothing has happened," said Özel, speaking to reporters in the parliament today (May 30).
The politician who worked closely with Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu before and during the dual elections stated that they will be evaluating the election results.
"We left this parliament believing that Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu will become the next president but the election results did not reflect this.
New group chairperson and deputy chairpersons will be elected
The Manisa MP informed that the oath-taking ceremony will be held on Friday, and that they will be meeting in the closed group meeting of the party on Saturday and electing one group chairperson and 3 group deputy chairpersons.
"Engin Özkoç is not an MP in this period, and Engin Altay and I will not be standing for the position," said Özel, declaring that therefore all three group deputy chairpersons of the rooted political party will change in the new period.
Özel stated that there were eight candidates for the positions and the party group will be taking the vote on Saturday.
"We know that women are very concerned"
After stating that they will not continue doing politics as if nothing has happened, Özel added that they will act bearing the responsibility of the 25,5 million [voters].
"We know that women are very concerned over some individuals and some political parties who have been carried to the parliament. Nobody should be afraid. We are not acting as if nothing has happened. We will do more than our share of the work.
"Our President has captained this process as he should. We know that nobody who voted for Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu is angry. We are not alleging any excuses for anything that happened.
"The connection that our president has built with the voters after he was nominated as the candidate makes all of us proud. Following the evaluation of our president and the Central Executive Committee, we will develop and announce our new road map," Özgür Özel said. (AS/PE)
