Six suspects have been remanded in custody in connection with an attack on an election campaign office of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) in İstanbul.
The suspects were detained for firing blank shots from a motorcycle in front of the CHP office in the Ataşehir district, writing slogans on the windows, and cutting the party flags. The police seized the blank cartridge gun used in the attack.
The attack, which occurred on April 19, involved six individuals who were later caught. According to the İstanbul Governor's Office, during the investigation, it was found that three of the suspects had previous records of various crimes. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Over the past month, the Good (İYİ) Party, the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) and the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) were also targeted in similar attacks, which are seen as a part of the growing political tension in Turkey ahead of the critical elections on May 14. (AÖ/VK)
