Turkey's Supreme Election Board (YSK) published today (March 31) in the Official Gazette the definitive verdict regarding the presidential candidates.
Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, Muharrem İnce, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Sinan Oğan will compete in the 14 May elections.
The ruling coalition of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) nominated Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as their candidate. Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has been nominated for the presidency by two major oppositional political parties, the Republican People's Party (CHP) and the Good Party (İYİ).
Muharrem İnce, who ran for president in 2018 and is currently the leader of the Homeland (Memleket) Party, and Sinan Oğan, a member of the far-right Ancestral Alliance, entered the race by collecting over 100,000 voter signatures.
The YSK's verdict also includes the candidates' birth dates and the information of the universities they graduated from.
The decision ends the recent commotion surrounding President Erdoğan's bid for re-election.
Several political parties challenged his attempt to run again, citing the constitutional limit of two presidential terms. Additionally, the opposition has long been raising concerns about the incumbent's alleged lack of a university degree, which is required to run for office.
Furthermore, the YSK announced that presidential nominees can open up a foreign exchange account to collect donations.
