Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Ordu MP Mustafa Adıgüzel submitted a Parliamentary question to Turkey's Parliamentary Speaker's Office and asked the exact number of summaries of proceedings filed against the MPs in the 27th Legislative Term.
Adıgüzel's question has been answered by Süreyya Sadi Bilgiç, the Deputy Parliamentary Speaker of Turkey.
According to his answer, 1,276 summaries of proceedings have been brought against 186 Members of the Parliament in the 27th term.
As for their distribution by political parties, the CHP has ranked first, with its 93 MPs facing summaries of proceedings aimed at lifting their legislative immunity. The main opposition party has been followed by the HDP, whose 54 of 55 MPs have been facing summaries of proceedings.
12 ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) MPs, 7 Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) MPs, 7 İYİ Party MPs, 2 Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) MPs and 8 Independent MPs are now also facing summaries of proceedings, according to the answer given to the Parliamentary question.
48 files in the first two months of 2021
CHP's Adıgüzel has noted that the MPs who lost their lives, were stripped of their MP status or elected as mayors have not been included in this count. "According to the answer dated March 17, 2021, 1,276 files of immunity against 186 27th-term MPs are at the Parliament," Adıgüzel has said and added: "70 percent of the CHP group have their files of immunity. Only in the first two months of 2021, 48 files of immunity were sent to 34 MPs." (RT/SD)
