The main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) announced today (September 11) that it has shut down its headquarters due to the recent surge in Covid-19 cases in Ankara, the capital.
The party staff will work from home starting from Monday (September 14), it said in a written statement.
Several politicians and lawmakers from the CHP and other parties have recently been diagnosed with Covid-19, including CHP spokesperson Faik Öztrak and vice-chair Onursal Adıgüzel.
Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca singled out Ankara as a new outbreak center in early September when he admitted that Turkey was on the "second peak of the epidemic."
Doctors' and health workers' organizations have also disputed official figures and pointed out the shortage of hospital beds in the city, which was denied by the minister yesterday.

"It is known by everyone that novel coronavirus (Covid-19) cases have been recently increasing exponentially and the table released every day does not reflect the truth," said the CHP.
"It is also evident that the government has not taken the necessary precautions for the protection of the people although we have made comprehensive recommendations as to the measures that need to be taken since the start of the process," the CHP further said. (RT/VK)
