Hagia Sophia museum's conversion into a mosque last month did not affect voter preferences in Turkey, according to a survey by the Avrasya Research company.
In the survey conducted between July 25 and 29 with 2,460 people, 99.7 percent said Hagia Sophia's reopening as a mosque didn't affect their preferences.
If there was an election today...
If there was an election today, the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) would receive 35 percent of the votes, its ally Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) 7.4 percent. The two party's total vote was over 52 percent in the 2018 general election.
As for the opposition parties, the Republican People's Party (CHP) gets 28.4 percent, the İYİ (Good) Party gets 12.4 percent, and the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) gets 11.7 percent of the votes.
The two offshoot parties of the AKP, the Future Party and the Democracy and Progress Party (DEVA), receive 2.2 percent and 2.3 percent of the votes, respectively.
The success rate of Erdoğan and the AKP
When asked about whether they find President and AKP Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan successful, 28.9 percent of the participants said "yes," 40.2 percent said "no" and 30.9 percent said "neither successful nor unsuccessful."
For the government, 30.3 percent said, "successful," 41.9 percent said "unsuccessful," and 27.8 percent said "neither successful nor unsuccessful."
According to the participants, the most important problems of Turkey are "economic problems," "unemployment," "inflation rate" and "injustice." (RT/VK)
