The dismissed co-mayor of Kızıltepe district in the southeastern Mardin province, Nilüfer Elik Yılmaz from the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), was detained today (December 12) during a morning raid by the police.
She was detained as part of an investigation launched by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office while her attorneys were not notified of her detention, the Mezopotamya Agency reported.
Municipalities taken over by Interior Ministry
The Ministry of Interior has replaced the co-mayors of 28 HDP municipalities with trustees on the grounds of "terrorism-related charges against them" since the local elections in March.
