The "white scarfed mothers" who say their children have been missing for years attempted to stage a sit-in protest in the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) Diyarbakır Provincial Chairpersonship.
The police encircled the women who showed a banner that says, "Mothers want peace," and did not allow entrance to the AKP building. Reporters were also prevented from approaching the area.
The police tried to get the women into a white van. Five of them who did not want to get into the van were detained, the Mezopotamya Agency reported.
Meanwhile, women who claim their children were kidnapped by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) have been staging protests in front of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Diyarbakır Organization since September 3.
Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu also joined the protests for a day. (HA/VK)
