Deputy Commander of the US European Command Lieutenant General Stephen Twitty arrived in Turkey with an accompanying military delegation yesterday (15 August) to discuss the planned "safe zone" in northern Syria.
Following visits in the capital Ankara, Lieutenant General Twitty went to Urfa province, examining the Syrian border line with officials from Turkey. Lieutenant General Twitty and the accompanying military delegation arrived at the command of the 3rd Frontier Regiment in Akçakale district. Twitty held meetings with Turkey's military officials there for about 3 hours. The US general and his accompanying soldiers flew back to Ankara by a private plane earlier last night.
A military delegation headed by Lieutenant General Twitty paid a visit to the Joint Chiefs of Staff today.
"In coordination with the United States, work is underway to establish a Joint Operations Center in Urfa within the scope of the planned safe zone in the north of Syria," the Ministry of National Defense said in a statement. (RT/VK)
