167 kilograms and 250 grams of synthetic drug known as "skunk*" were seized in an operation conducted in the city center and the Birecik district of Urfa. According to the Anadolu Agency's report, four individuals were taken into custody during the operation.
In Van, 44 kilograms of heroin were also seized during anti-drug operations last month. Legal actions were taken against 90 individuals in connection with these operations.
During the operations carried out by the Narcotic Crimes Division in the city from August 1st to August 31st, a total of 49 kilograms and 259 grams of narcotics were confiscated, including 5 kilograms of synthetic drugs, 194.67 grams of marijuana, 44 kilograms of heroin, 48.29 grams of synthetic cannabinoids, 808 cannabis plants, 5,416 synthetic pharmaceutical pills, and 16.10 grams of skunk.
128,000 imprisoners convicted for drug offences
According to a statement from the Ministry of Interior, the number of individuals imprisoned or convicted for drug offenses has increased from 36,000 to 128,000 in the past seven years. According to the Ministry of Justice, the total number of prisoners is 341,497, meaning that approximately one-third of prisoners are incarcerated for drug-related crimes.
* Skunk is a highly addictive substance that is derived from the raw material of cannabis through hybridization with other drugs in a laboratory environment. It has approximately 20 times more addictive properties than marijuana and can have severe effects on the brain, leading to various illnesses and even death.
