Some 500,000 households in 11 provinces don't have access to electricity due to the February 6 earthquakes, an opposition deputy has said.
"In other words, at least two million citizens of ours are in dark," CHP Deputy Chair Ahmet Akın said today (February 21) in a written statement.
"The government announced that the collection of electricity and natural gas invoices would be postponed. The government's only solution is to postpone the bills," he said, adding that citizens have already big problems, most notably shelter issues.
More than 41,000 people were killed in the 7.8 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes centered in Maraş, with more than 100,000 injured.
Also, over 110,000 buildings collapsed or incurred severe damage in the affected regions, which led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people. (HA/VK)
