"Ezgi's murderer is still free, justice for Ezgi," was the slogan in the demonstration held by the We Will Stop Femicide Platform (KCDP) on Saturday (July 29) organized for Ezgi Zerkin whose murderer has not been caught for one year now.
Zerkin's mother, Ziynet Zerkin, the General Secretary of KCDP, Fidan Ataselim and Tülin Osmanoğulları have each spoken in the demonstration in front of the Governorship of İzmir.
Ziynet Zerkin reiterated her demand for justice for her daughter and cried out against the police.
"I have been crying for 365 days, and you are telling me that I am not allowed to march. What you should be doing is not stopping me, what you should do is to support me and to catch the murderer. If I do not stand by the women's councils here, you will add Ezgi to the list and you will not catch the murderers. Is the police so impotent that they are not able to catch a murderer? You find and detain those who make stickers or the child who steals bread, but the murderers are able to live freely. This is not a shame on us, it is a shame on you," the mother said.
"We will stop femicide in defiance of them"
Fidan Ataselim talked next and she drew attention to the fact that Ezgi Zerkin was killed while she was under protection.
"Ezgi Zerkin was under protection in the scope of Law no. 6284 when she was killed. The police who tried to prevent us and to bring down that beautiful smiling photo of Ezgi, those who did not protect her are responsible! You should know that we will never put down this photograph of Ezgi. Where the murderers of women cannot be found, those who express their opinions are detained, even arrested right away. Then the truth about Deniz Özarslan is not that he could not be found, but that he was not found. We will stop femicide in defiance of them," Ataselim said.
Tülin Osmanoğulları, a member of the platform has also spoken.
She said, "We wanted to make an announcement when Ezgi was in hospital, in intensive care. It was one day after Ezgi was shot. The police was there again. I had said asked them "Why haven't you taken the necessary measures before Ezgi was killed? They had responded, saying 'We have withdrawn from the İstanbul Agreement, we cannot do anything unless that person goes to Ezgi's house and beats her there. But when that person entered that house, he killed Ezgin only in 23 seconds." (EMK/PE)
