The 16th edition of Documentarist, the Istanbul Documentary Days granted the Johan van der Keuken (JvdK) New Talent Award to "Duet" directed by İdil Akkuş and Ekin İlkbağ.
The jury has expressed that the reason for granting the JvdK New Talent Award to "Duet" is that it is "a documentary with strong content, telling the story not through interviews, but through filming their moments, and one that follows the main characters for a long period of time. The documentary starts as one that tells what sports can make a person do, and it turns into a story of friendship, solidarity, care and what it means to be a woman in today's Turkey."
The Jury's Special Award on the other hand went to "Journey to the Documentary" by Miraç Eraslan in the festival where Petra Lataster-Czisch, Begüm Özden Fırat and Adar Bozbay made up the jury,
A first film by Miraç Eraslan, "the Journey to the Documentary" was described as "an innovative, creative and original documentary with a sincere story. From the problems of higher education to the difficulties of finding a job in the film industry, and keeping one's hopes for a different future, it tells the real history of a generation."
The award ceremony of 16th edition of Documentarist will take place tonight at Metrohan in İstanbul where Duet will be screened. (AÖ/PE)
