The Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) has released a statement marking the anniversary of the İstanbul Pogrom.
On September 6-7, 1955, mob attacks targeted homes and businesses of İstanbul's Rum minority, as well as Armenians and Jews, leaving more than a dozen dead.

The events were triggered by the fake news that a bomb attack took place against the house where Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was born in Thessaloniki, Greece.
"On September 6-7, 1955, when the big massacre took place, homes and businesses of Christian and Jewish citizens were plundered. After the program, tens of thousands of citizens had to leave the country in the face of threats against their lives," said the statement released by the party's Rights and Beliefs Commission.
"... The way to say 'Never again!' after the September 6-7 Pogrom, which is one of the darkest pages of our history, is to confront this painful history. However, the September 6-7 Pogrom has not been officially condemned and no steps have been taken for compensation or apology.
"This shame against the ancient peoples of this region should be confronted." (EMK/VK)
