Candles were lit for the Jews' Hanukkah feast last night. The eight-day feast will be celebrated until December 6.
Releasing a message marking the start of the feast, Turkey's Chief Rabbi İsak Haleca said, "With Hanukkah candle, the first of which we will light on the evening of Sunday, November 28, we will once again commemorate the Maccabee Resistance of our ancestors about 22 centuries ago.
"We will share our hopes and aspirations with our people and all humanity for 'peace, well-being, enlightenment and brotherhood.'
"Let's not forget that our Hannukiahs are not ornaments but complementary elements of our homes.
"I hope and wish that; May the 'Lights Day Hanukkah', which is the anniversary of a noble struggle, be instrumental in the development of feelings of love, respect and brotherhood among people that enlighten our souls. Hanukkah Sameach." (HA/VK)
