Ankara 28th Heavy Penal Court returned the indictment prepared for 49 people, 5 of them arrested, with Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFG) Co-Chair and Mezopotamya Agency (MA) editor Dicle Müftüoğlu and MA editor and bia children's library editor/author Sedat Yılmaz among them.
The reason of the court for the rejection of the indictment is not known, due to the confidentiality order about the case file, the MA reported.
What happened?
Dicle Müftüoğlu and Sedat Yılmaz were taken into custody in Diyarbakır on April 29 in the scope of an investigation started by the Ankara Chief Prosecutor's Office.
The two journalists met with their lawyer after a 24-hour restriction to meet their lawyers, who reported that Müftüoğlu and Yılmaz had been kept handcuffed for 15 hours while being transported from Diyarbakır to Ankara, and deprived of food for 24 hours.
Müftüoğlu and Yılmaz were arrested by the night court where they appeared and were sent to the Sinncan Closed Women's Prison and Sincan 2nd F Type High-Security Prison respectively.
Responding to our questions on April 22, the Kurdish Journalists' Day, Dicle Müftüoğlu told bianet that "journalism, freedom of press and freedom of expression, and defending democracy in Turkey was at the heart of the issue." (AS/PE)
