The Ministry of Family and Social Services has deemed a novel by Ahmet Ümit, a renowned crime novelist, an "obscene publication."
In accordance with the decision, the book can now only be sold in a "non-transparent envelope or bag" that does not contain any text or image other than the name of the book and a warning message that it's not appropriate for minors.
Also, booksellers will not be able to display the book in their showcases. The book will not be allowed in school.
After the decision, Ümit tweeted, "My book called Tapınak Fahişeleri was censored. It was found to be obscene. Obstructing art through oppression is like imprisoning the wind. You can never achieve it."
The book titled "Başkomiser Nevzat: Tapınak Fahişeleri" (Captain Nevzat: Temple Prostitutes) was published in 2007.
In the beginning, the novel describes sexual intercourse between a young woman with her boyfriend and friends, according to the book description. (HA/VK)
