A new campaign launched by the People's Democratic Party (HDP) today in their relief efforts following the February 6 earthquakes is called "We are bringing the families together."
The campaign was announced today (February 23) by the co-chairs of HDP Crisis Management Center (CMC), Özlem Gündüz and Serhat Eren in Diyarbakır.
Gündüz and Eren told the reporters today in a press briefing that there is still a great number of demands that they receive from the earthquake-hit regions, especially for accommodation needs, even after 18 days have passed after the earthquake. A new campaign is therefore being launched.
Bridge between families
Accordingly, HDP will be bringing families together on grounds of friendship and solidarity. The families who wish to support the earthquake victim families at least for four months are invited to join this campaign. An the party will be the bridge between the families.
The co-chairs of the center informed in the briefing that they have reached over 10 thousand people who are members of balloting committees and nearly 2 thousand mukhtars in order to gather information about the scale of damage and the demands in the related locations. They collect the demands, communicate them to the crisis coordination centers set up in the provinces, and do follow-up for the problems.
Over three thousand volunteers
More than three thousand volunteers have participated in the relief efforts in coordination with the HDP CMC, and they also cooperate with all organizations of women, youth, labor, and occupational organizations.
"The government circles did not stop their oppression or threatening the opposition and the society even after the earthquake", said the co-chairs and gave examples of trucks carrying aid materials being blocked, seizing tents, detaining those who are helping the victims, and even appointing the strict governor as a "trustee" to the distribution center they have set up in Pazarcık.
Gündüz and Eren also said that the people "have seen and taken note of all of this."
The Lawyers Commission of the party has prepared a report on such cases and filed the necessary criminal complaints, the co-chairs informed. (EMK/PE)
