President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that 912 people have been reported to have died in the earthquake today and 5 thousand 385 injured.
Erdoğan went to the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) Coordination Center and held a press conference there.
This was the biggest disaster in this century what we had at 04:17 this night after the 1939 Erzincan earthquake, told Erdoğan the reporters.
9 thousand personnel are working in the rescue efforts at the moment, and this number is increasing every minute with others reaching the region.
Efforts are being made in order to identify those who are trapped in wreckages and to rescue them at full speed. Those rescued from the debris numbered 2 thousand 470 so far, according to Erdoğan, and the number of buildings that collapsed 2 thousand 818.
Erdoğan told the reporters that there was severe destruction in Syria also.
The President also announced that 45 countries besides NATO and EU have so far proposed to send international aid following the earthquake.
