Fourteen cats that have been rescued from rubble after the İzmir earthquake, the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality has announced.
The first cat was rescued 75 hours after and the last one was rescued 100 hours after the earthquake, said the municipality.
The cats were brought to the Small Animals Clinic at Kültürpark, it said.
Municipality veterinarian Cihan Ziyan stated that most of the cats were in good condition and they didn't have orthopedic problems.
Ziyan said the people of İzmir were very sensitive and many applied to adopt the cats and added: "After completing their treatments, we will ensure that cats that are not taken by their owners within a certain period of time are adopted by the applicants."
As many as 114 people lost their lives and more than 1,000 were injured in the 6.9 magnitude earthquake on October 30. Also, more than 15,000 people have been left homeless.
Authorities announced the end of search and rescue efforts yesterday (November 4). (AS/VK)
