An investigation has been launched into a recreational park in İstanbul's Küçükçekmece district because its new layout "resembles" the symbols of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
Küçükçekmece Sub-Governor Turan Bedirhanoğlu said that they received a lot of complaints about the Atatürk Park after its renewal by the district municipality, the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA) reported.

After they found that some shapes in the children's playground looked like PKK symbols, they reported the incident to the judicial authorities, said the sub-governor. Municipal workers then removed the shapes.
Launching an investigation into the incident, the İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office ordered the identification of those who presented or approved the project for the renewal of the park and an inquiry of their "terrorist connections."

Küçükçekmece District Municipality, led by the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), then released a statement, saying that it was "sorry" about how the design of the playground was perceived and it would rebuild the park. (AS/VK)
