As many as 20 patients stay in the same room and some beds are shared by two or more people in a maternity and children's hospital in the eastern Batman province, according to footage sent to bianet.
The companion of a patient at the hospital said that her daughter-in-law had to give birth at home because the ambulance was late and then was taken to the hospital with her baby.
"In the room they put us in, there were women who just gave birth and their children lying in the same bed," she said. "There were two nurses and one doctor. Nobody listened to our complaints.
The secretary of the hospital's chief physician told bianet on the phone that such an incident might have occurred as the hospital will be transferred to another building on December 15 and currently has an excessive number of patients.
The private secretary of the Batman Provincial Health Directorate said that they were not aware of such a situation.
Batman Public Hospital Services Chair Dr. Hakkı Ural also said he had no information about the situation but noted that there was only one room for examination after birth and the footage could be "momentary."
Dr. Yılmaz Akyüz, a deputy chief physician at the hospital, said that the hospital has a total of 160 beds and the maternity and gynecology services have a total of 41 beds. In this service, there are rooms with four five or six beds, he added.
While the emergency gynecology service could be crowded sometimes, no more than 12 people, including companions, can stay in the same room, he said and denied that beds were shared by multiple patients.
"Second, we introduced restrictions during the Covid-19 period. There is a visitor ban. I don't believe the footage is accurate. Patients can sometimes do such things when what they want doesn't happen. We absolutely don't accept this," he noted. (TP/VK)
