Sixty-four more prisoners in the Buca Closed Prison in İzmir province have been diagnosed with Covid-19 after the first case was found in the prison on April 19, İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has announced.
All 65 prisoners with coronavirus were in good health, the prosecutor's office said.
A prisoner was referred to a medical institution for diarrhea and malaise on April 13 and tested positive for Covid-19. After the incident, people who contacted him were also tested for coronavirus.
Justice Minister Abdülhamit Gül stated on April 13 that no cases of the novel coronavirus were seen in closed prisons, while three prisoners in open prisons died of Covid-19. (TP/VK)
