Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) MP Semra Güzel has submitted a parliamentary question about an incident of child abuse in Pertek district in the southeastern Dersim province.
A man named H.Y. was recently detained for child abuse as examinations on his computer and mobile phone showed that he abused "numerous boys," she said.
He was also charged with abusing a girl with mental disabilities in 2018 but Pertek Public Prosecutor's Office gave a verdict of non-prosecution, Güzel added.
Submitting her parliamentary question to Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu, Güzel asked if the minister has information about the incident and whether an inquiry was launched about the prosecutor's decision of non-prosecution.
Güzel stressed that as a result of the verdict of non-prosecution, the person repeated the offense, asking the minister if this strengthened the opinion that the state protects abusers.
"How many people who sexually abused children since 2002 have been given a decision not to prosecute by the prosecutor's office? How many of these people repeated the same crime after the decision not to prosecute?," she asked. (RT/VK)
