Turkish Medical Association (TTB) Central Committee, together with Women Physicians and Women's Health Departments of the TTB and Diyarbakır Medical Association, organized a press meeting on the occasion of November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Here Dr. Adalet Çıbık read out the November 25 message Dr. Şebnem Korur Fincancı sent.
Korur-Fincancı, the head of the Turkish Medical Association (TTB) and a professor of forensic medicine, was arrested after her remarks calling for an investigation into the allegations of use of chemical weapons. She is in Sincan F type prison since October 27.
The November 25 message Korur-Fincancı sent to all women is as follows:
"My dear sisters,
We are experiencing a period when patriarchy is stepping up its aggression.
We the doctors have direct responsibility in relation to violence against women, such as in all traumas. We know that we cannot find a solution for violence against women only by documenting male violence or dressing wounds. That is why we are struggling against those who turned the pandemic into their advantage, who withdrew from the İstanbul agreement, to the health policies neglecting women, to the male judiciary distributing impunity, so against patriarchy as a whole.
Although I am not with you this November 25, we, the women will continue to fight for all women and for our freedom together at home, on the streets, at workplaces, or in prison..." (AS/PE)
