Police prevented women's demonstrations in four Kurdish-majority provinces today (November 25), in the country's east and southeast to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
Several women were beaten by the police and detained during demonstrations organized by the Free Women's Movement (TJA) in Cizre, Şırnak, and Van, Mezopotamya Agency (MA) reported.

Feleknas Uca, an MP with the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), said, "Today is the day for combating violence against women but you once again used violence on women once again. You'll be held accountable for this."
In Ağrı, women gathered outside of the HDP provincial office. Preventing them to read out a statement, police detained several people, including Hatice Akdağ, a member of the HDP's Central Executive Committee, and Dilek Karataş, a municipal council member for the HDP.
Women in Mardin were allowed to read out a statement but they could not hold a march from the HDP provincial office to Karayolu Park, as the police closed the roads. (TY/VK)
