Will Stop Feminicides Platform has announced that a lawsuit was filed for its closure for "carrying out activities against laws and morality."
The İstanbul Prosecutor's Office filed a lawsuit for annulment upon a request by the Desk of Associations of the Governor's Office of İstanbul, bianet has learned.
Releasing a statement, the platform said the lawsuit was "unlawful" and called for a demonstration in İstanbul's Kadıköy on Friday (April 16).
The lawsuit was filed after various petitions of complaints against the association "constituted a strong suspicion of crime," said the platform. However, it noted, the complaints included accusations that are not based on any tangible evidence, such as "undermining the family under the guise of defending women's rights."
"Also, investigations against our association's executives that did not even turn into lawsuits and some law enforcement recordings were listed in the file.
"Trying to make up crimes against us with these unlawful and baseless allegations is pathetic even for the current legal order."
"Women cannot be silenced"
"We began our journey 12 years ago by saying, 'We Will Stop Feminicide.' We have revealed the news stories of 'murder of love' on the third pages of newspapers were our struggle for life," said the statement.
"We revealed the truths in suspicious feminicides. We pursued the making and enforcement of laws and regulations about women. With the data we published every month, we showed how we are fighting for life.
"... As Will Stop Feminicides Platform, we don't view this lawsuit as an attack only on our struggle. We know that it is an attack on the entire democratic public.
"The government's efforts to intimidate those who struggle ... are not independent of many unlawful practices in the country. We will not normalize and legitimize this.
"... As We Will Stop Feminicides Platform and the Women's Assemblies, we have never walked alone. We know that we will never walk alone in the face of these attacks against our righteous struggle.
"We call on all women, LGBTIQ+s and all sensitive people who support women's struggle, especially our members and friends, to embrace our struggle against this annulment lawsuit. We will never stop, we will stop feminicides."
