Tutya Yılmaz, one of the two women artistic gymnasts of Turkey who have ever competed in olympic games, announced her retirement in October 2019.
In a video she posted on YouTube on July 13, she said she has retired because of body shaming and mobbing by her managers.
Also a former Turkey champion, Yılmaz participated in the 2016 Olympic Games at the age of 16.
She was constantly subjected to mobbing by the managers of the gymnastics federation, she said in the video.
"I had no problems with any of my teammates but the mobbing and psychological assault of managers who were 40, 50 or 60 years old exhausted me," she remarked.
"Think about being constantly mocked about your height and weight before the competition," she said. "They didn't believe in my injuries, they said it was fake. I was constantly demoralized by the managers." (SO/VK)
