As the resistance of the İkizköy villagers and activists in the Akbelen forest in Muğla, Milas against the expansion of a coal mine into the forest continues on its 12th day, the Parliament is going to meet on August 8 to discuss the issue.
The main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) has taken the initiative to collect the necessary number of signatures of MPs to convene the parliament for a meeting on the environmental dispute.
Numan Kurtulmuş, the Speaker of the Parliament, has called the General Assembly to meet on Tuesday (August 8) at 15:00 pm.

The operating company YK Energy, which has been granted a license to open a coal mine at the Akbelen Forest in order provide coad to the Yeniköy and Kemerköy thermal power plants in Milas entered the forest accompanied with gendarme on the last week of July but met with the resistance of the İkizköy villagers and dedicated activists. Opposition MPs also came to the site of the resistance in order to give their support.
CHP Group Deputy Chairperson and İstanbul MP Gökhan Günaydın informed that they are taking the initiative to convene the Parliament in a press briefing in the Parliament on Wednesday (August 2).
"The environmental massacre in Akbelen has to be discussed in all its dimensions in the parliament," Günaydın said and announced that they will be calling the Parliament to meet on Tuesday, August 8.

However, Günaydın was not optimistic that it would be possible to hold a general debate on the issue in the Parliement.
