Wildfires continue in five locations in Turkey's southwest, according to a statement by Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli yesterday (August 8).
Efforts to contain four wildfires in Muğla, one of the hardest-hit cities during the fires, and one fire in Aydın continue, said the minister.
Yesterday, Antalya's Kaş district, Hatay's İskenderun, İzmir's Urla and Torbalı, Manisa's Gördes and Muğla's Datça were contained yesterday, he said.
Six planes, 39 helicopters, 630 water tenders, 128 earthmovers and 3,600 firefighters have been deployed in Muğla, according to Pakdemirli.
Damage assessment works also continue, he said. In the provinces of Adana, Aydın, Osmaniye, Antalya, Muğla and Mersin, a total of 51,770 decares (12,700 acres) of agricultural land, 670 decares of greenhouses, 4,000 cattle, 4,204 sheep and goats, 5,475 beehives, 28,762 poultries, 6,570 tools and machines, 2,549 tons of stored products and 1840 agricultural structures were found to be damaged, according to Pakdemirli.
