A polar bear on a piece of ice that broke away from the icecap... Symbolizing the global warming, this image was like showing the danger that is far away from "home"...
However, the world's resources are rapidly being polluted. The effects of this extinction are being experienced in the present time, not in an indefinite time in the future. Just as activist Greta Thunberg says, "Our house is on fire." Children have realized before adults that the house is burning and taken to the streets.
As bianet, we keep the climate crisis on the agenda with our reports and articles. We publish what Generation Z says about the climate crisis. We thought we could accept Greta's invitation in another way as well.
We are beginning a new series of articles as of tomorrow. Every Wednesday, we will publish articles on climate crisis penned for bianet by scientists, journalists and activists and interviews with people who work in this field.
In the articles and interviews, we will discuss every aspect of the climate crisis and its impact on women, children, animals, ecosystems and biodiversity, climate policies, and climate movements in the world and Turkey.
We are beginning our series with Ümit Şahin, a senior expert at the İstanbul Policy Center. Our colleague Elif Ünal has spoken with Şahin about climate policies, the steps that need to be taken, overcoming obstacles, and responsibilities.
We thank Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet) Journalism & Media International Center for its financial support for the Climate Crisis Articles. (DB/VK)
