Google has denied the reports that it would modify its operations in Turkey and open a new office in the country to comply with the social media law that came into force on July 31.
According to the law, "social media content providers" that have more than one million daily visitors are obliged to have a legal representative and store users' information in Turkey.

Google noted that it has already had an İstanbul-based company working for the promotion and marketing of its services since 2006.
It denied that it would change its operations because of the Law on Regulation of Publications on the Internet and Suppression of Crimes Committed by Means of Such Publications.
The false reports were caused by a misunderstanding about Google's plans to make "structural changes" to its advertisement services in 2021, the company said, adding that those changes were not related to the new law. (HA/VK)
