The event planned by the daily Atılım to meet with its "readers and friends" on the 25th anniversary of its foundation has been banned by Çiğli District Governorship in the western İzmir province.
Co-chair of the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP), Özlem Gümüştaş, representatives from the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) and musician Mehmet Atlı were also going to attend the event.
The event was going to be held at a conference hall of Çiğli District Municipality.
Stating that they will hold the celebrations despite the ban order, the ESP İzmir Branch announced the event will be held at the HDP İzmir Provincial Organization building.
Gülcan Taşkıran, a member of the ESP's party assembly, had said, "In Atılım's 25th year, we contend that the socialist press must be supported. We want to see everyone who is involved in the anti-fascist struggle with us at the 25th year gathering." (HA/VK)
