Speaking to journalists on plane on his return from Krgyzstan to Turkey, President and Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has touched upon a potential military operation into Idlib.
According to Hürriyet daily newspaper, Erdoğan said, “We have 12 observation points in there. Our security forces continue their work in determination. Above all, our cooperation with Russia is very important” and added:
“Our armed forces, intelligence agency and Ministry of Defense sustain it. There are 3.5 million people in here. US and Russia pass the buck to each other but god forbid, if they launch missiles on here, a slaughter takes place here.
“God forbid, if a disaster occurs, where these people can escape to is again Turkey. When we are at a time when returns have begun, now there’s such a risk on the agenda”.
“There is Tehran summit on September 7. Hopefully we will take this matter to a very positive stage in this summit. This is follow up of Astana. It doesn’t mean going against Geneva. We give a lot of importance to this summit”. (PT/TK)
