Interviewing to Le Figaro newspaper, President of France Emmanuel Macron has emphasized that Turkey’s military operation launched into Afrin should be “against terrorism”.
Warning Turkey, Macron said, “If it turns out that this operation takes a turn other than to fight a potential terrorist threat to the Turkish border and becomes an invasion operation, then this becomes a real problem for us”.
Furthermore, Macron noted that Turkey must be in coordination with its European allies.
PM Yıldırım: France’s thought is flawed
Speaking to journalists following the meeting he held with Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri at Çankaya Mansion, concerning Macron’s warning Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said:
“France’s thought is flawed. We don’t act in an invasive way. Turkey does what is required against all sorts of terrorist threats. These activities will in fact prevent a terror corridor from being formed in Syria and Iraq”.
Call by Paylan for "sensitivity"
On the other hand, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) İstanbul MP Garo Paylan attended the annual dinner organized by the Co-ordination Council of Armenian organizations of France (CCAF) in Paris.
Coming together with President Macron during the dinner, stating that “civilian casualties have been increasing on each passing day”, Paylan called for “sensitivity against Turkey’s offensive into Afrin”.
In the same dinner, Paylan was granted the most important badge of Paris, "la médaille Grand Vermeil", by the city’s mayor Anne Hidalgo for his efforts for democracy and human rights.
FM called for “moderation”
After the operation started, Minister of Foreign Affairs of France Jena-Yves le Drian had met with his counterpart from Turkey Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and called on him to act in moderation.
“As the humanitarian crisis worsens in more than one place of Syria, we call on the Turkish authorities to act in moderation”. (PT/TK)
