It was announced in the final declaration released following the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit that East Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine. The US decision on Jerusalem was condemned in the declaration.
In the final declaration, a call was made to the international community to recognize East Jerusalem as Palestine’s capital under occupation.
“The US administration should withdraw from the peace process”
In the final declaration of the OIC, it was also expressed that “the US administration should withdraw from the peace process. If the US does not take a step back, it will be responsible for all the consequences of this.”
Key stipulations in the final declaration:
-We declare East Jerusalem to be the capital of Palestine.
-We call on all countries to recognize this.
-We condemn the US’s Jerusalem decision.
-The US decision violates the rights of the Palestinian people.
-The US should withdraw from its role in the peace process.
-If the US does not take a step back, it is responsible for all consequences of this.
Erdoğan makes a call for recognition
President and AKP Chairperson Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also made a statement in his talk at the summit that called for “the whole world to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine under occupation”.
Affirming the decision about Jerusalem in the declaration, the OIC countries requested a positive response to the call from the international community. (LN)
