People’s Protection Units (YPG) Spokesperson Redur Halil has described the US approving the legislation concerning arms aid to the YPG as “Late but a sound decision”.
According to the DHA citing Kurdish websites, Halil spoke as follows.
“This decision is an indication that there is faith in our forces in our fight against ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria).
“Our fight against terror has been continuing for 5.5 years. We’ve gained accomplishments in all fronts.
“YPG is the top force among the ones which the US determined.
“Arming those who fight against ISIS will bear its fruits.
“Our forces will annihilate these dark forces with the support of the coalition forces and will take an active role in the establishment of a free Syria”.
Reaction from Turkey
Vice Prime Minister Nurettin Canikli qualified the arms aid decision to be “support for the terror organization”.
The aid decision approved by US President Donald Trump was announced when Turkey’s delegation was in the US.
Opposing the Raqqa campaign to be launched with the YPG, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had asked the US to carry out the campaign with Turkey instead of the YPG several times, yet the US insisted on working with the YPG. (YY/TK)
