Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has declared that they will name the street where Russia Embassy in Ankara is located after Russia’s Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov, who has been assassinated in Ankara.
Ahead of a bilateral talk with Russia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov, in joint statements, Çavuşoğlu said:
“I condemn the attack carried out on your ambassador and our friend Ambassador Karlov. Target of the attack is to damage our relations.
“We will name the street where Russia Embassy in Ankara is located after Russia’s Ambassador to Turkey Karlov”.
What had happened?
Subjected to armed attack during his speech at a drawing exhibition opening at Çağdaş Sanatlar Merkezi (Contemporary Arts Center) in Ankara, Russia’s Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov had lost his life in the hospital where he was taken to for treatment.
Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu declared that the assailant was a police officer named Mevlüt Mert Altıntaş aged 22.
